Ireland to play Argentina

The Argentinean senior men’s team have been confirmed to play Ireland as part of their tour in a double header on October 29 and 30.

Ireland managed to beat the South Americans 1-0 in their last encounter with the world number 8-side at the Olympic qulaifiers last February but ultimately lost out to the Argentineans for a playoff place on goal difference. There were also allegations of Irish players being spat at in the wake of the game which were subsequently dismissed by the tournament directors.

High Performance Director Dave Passmore is delighted to have another hugh class international outift visit the country. Speaking about the game, he said "This is a fantastic opportunity to play a top ranked team who finished third in the Champions Trophy in July.

"Having beaten them in the Qualifier earlier this year they will be keen to avenge this result and the matches can be expected to be competitive exciting games. It will provide an opportunity for some of the younger players who impressed over the summer to perform against higher ranked teams.”

Dave Passmore will remain in charge for the game, and until a new senior coach appointment is made, but, all going well, these games could possibly provide the new coach with the first opportunity to see the squad in action.

Acording to the Independent today, there are six candidates in contention for the job with current Pembroke coach and Irish assistant Craig Fulton among them.

The selected squad will be announced in the week commencing October 13.

Match Schedule:
Wednesday, October 29 (7.30pm) Ireland -v- Argentina, UCD
Thursday, October 30 (12pm) Ireland -v- Argentina TBC

out've the international players detailed by clubs in an earlier i would whittle down the squad by omitting:
Burns,C Harte,Sothern,A McConnell,K Black,Lennox,McCabe,Cockram,Lynch,Quigley,Redpath,Walker,M Watt,J Jackson.
This would leave a squad of sixteen comprising of:
Gk:Ruddle,Harte.
Df:Gormley,Lewis,Brennan,Quigley.
Md:Hobbs,Jermyn,Shaw,Maguire,Ames,Black.Butler.
Fwd:Blakeney,Darling,Gleghorne.

Any opponents to my 16?

black will be glad to see youve omitted him then added him again further down!!can't see blakeney getting in seeing as he's only a development squad player.

well I omitted Keith Black of Cookstown but leaving out Mark Black would be foolish I feel.
Including Blakeney is dependant on his performances this year however playing for Western Australia and then in the EHL would place him further up the pecking order than most according to the IHA's plan of getting more quality hockey more often to the elite players in the country.
I think it's also plausible to have no less than three goalscorers in the squad as although we have an abundance of midfielders we do need poachers in there too..

i hope all you experts have applied for passmore's job......

if were in need of a goalscorer which i agree we are then i think the inclusion of cockram and southern is a must, cockram is clinical from PCs and southern from field play, other than that no disagreements with the squad picked.

just sent in the CV there actually.bit late but i think ill walk it

It's highly unlikely that any TRR
players will be picked due to EHL
matches the following days.

They shouldnt be picked either. Not good enough

not good enough to win irish senior cup, leinster senior cup and indoor cup, yet win leinster league, neville cup, indoor league and club championship????

think someone is jealous of a full trophy cabinet.
