Irish Hockey League launched

The Irish Hockey Association officially launched the new Irish Hockey League and its new website, http://www.irishhockeyleague.ie/, yesterday at Pembroke Wanderers Hockey Club.

Clubs and officials also received an excellent presentation from top umpire Ray O’Connor on the new rules that will apply to the Irish Hockey League.

The new Irish Hockey League pits the top 12 men's and 12 women's clubs against each other over five weekends before culminating in a fully televised final's weekend by Setanta Sports.

The new website will have loads of information on it about the competing teams and is expected to be a great resource for the competition with match reports loaded onto the page with 45 minutes of the final whistle.

Speaking about the new website, IHA chief executive, Angus Kirkland, explains the "The Irish Hockey League is the biggest venture to happen on the domestic front in years and the creation of this new website facilitates players, coaches, managers, press and fans alike in having a one stop resource centre for all the information they could ever require on the league."

"This new league will see 12 matches taking place each of the five weekends around the country (60 matches in total) before the finals so this site will also provide a central hub for timely results and match reports which will be updated within 45 minute of a match finishing!"
