This weekend sees the first, three-day ‘Super Camp’ for the Irish women's senior squad. The new camp has been introduced in addition to the twice weekly, regional basis sessions which the national squad currently undertakes.
The introduction of this new Super Camp provides the squad with the opportunity to work together over a three day period, affording the coaching and management team the opportunity to build in other aspects to the programme.
The Senior Women’s squad will have their first meet at Jordanstown in Belfast which will feature a changed format aimed at addressing some crucial elite performance components with the primary aim to address technical and tactical aspects over a two day period.

Athletes will have access to nutritionists, sports psychologists, and time management consultants in addition to the regular technical and tactical emphasis. The intention is to build these camps into the national programme every four months.
Commenting on the new format, High Performance Director, Dave Passmore said “The Super camp is an excellent idea ensuring the essential elements of the broader development of an athlete are prioritised and given specific attention. This idea generated from the women's evaluation process and will also be developed within the men's program”
Senior Women’s Coach Gene Muller also seemed keen to get his ‘09 preparations underway. “This camp is the start of our international preparation for 2009. We are currently working with a group that has good potential. They are talented and ambitious, but we need to address areas in which we can make improvements.”

So no internationals will play in this weekend's league fixtures?
Is this fair to clubs? Missing key players for vital league matches for an Irish training session.
As has been stated before ,it's better not to have Irish squad members(and school girls) if you want to win the league."Super Camp"......don't realy see the point in the name; hopefully they'll concentrate on playing at high tempo, surely that's the most important thing?????
This is stupid. There are too many games for clubs. They need to cut down on the number of games for clubs and create international weekends where the 1st division clubs don't play and this allows for the national team to meet up and train without their clubs being left with a loss.
In fairness... with our ladies national team not going anywhere in World Ranking terms in the last 5 years (15th as of Sept. 2008 compared with 14th in Oct. 2003) ... the more training they can do the better!!!
Super Camp... Strange who will they train against each other ? Hardly worth giving up a 'Unit' for let alone a Competitive Div one match !
In these situations the luck of the draw or the fixture secretary will have more bearing on the outcomes of the leagues than the players!
This is crazy why take our top players out of their competitive matches to train for what exactly. please Explain to me what these folks in IHA are bloodly doing can they not realise how stupid this is.. First restrict our Youths from Club hockey. What exactly will they be doing at this camp? they will look great, be fit, be fully 'psycho analysised and wont have match fitness... lots of sense !!
why isn't lou moore in this squad??
Lou Moore not playing international hockey this year...
