Men's Division Two: Week Two results

Bray 4 (Simon Cox, Phil Davis, James Hardiman, Ian Murphy) Suttonians 2 (Ed Hipwell, Nasir Munir)
Bray began life in division two in brilliant style, beating a side that has impressed in recent weeks. Simon Cox got the Wicklow-side off and running, finishing a fine, flowing move and Phil Davis added a drag-flick to make it 2-0.

Ed Hipwell got Suttonians back into the game but ill-discipline cost them as they picked up three greens and two yellow cards, one sin-binning going to the recently returned Nasir Munir from suspension. James Hardiman and Ian Murphy added one apiece to stretch the advantage before Munir pulled one back from a penalty corner deflection.

Bray - coached by Rudi Woortman - get off to the perfect start while Suttonians produced good hockey in parts but need to keep their heads if they are to gain a first ever promotion to the top flight.

Dublin University 8 (Chris Tyrell 2, Daire Coady, Barry Glavey, Ben Hewitt, Andy Grey, Stuart Cinnamond, Cian O'Reilly) Navan 0
The students had an easy start to the season with an impressive win over the Badgers at Santry. Ben Hewitt made an early return to the side, arriving back in Dublin a day early in a game where seven different players got on the score-sheet.

Avoca 4 (Alan Cooke, Ezra Handelman, Stephen Brownlow, Will ylmer) Weston 0
Will Aylmer scored against his old club in another one-sided encounter while Ezra Handelman scored his first since his return from Rovers. Stephen Brownlow got his second of the season as Weston struggled in their season opener.

Naas 0 Skerries 7 (Alan Earley 4, Ali McMahon 2, Felix Nackin)
Skerries eased to comprehensive 7-0 win over Naas with four-star Alan Earley shooting to the top of the leagues scoring charts. German exchange student Felix Nackin also got a first goal for the club. Naas, for their part, had one major chance well-saved by Damien Keena when the game was scoreless which may have made for a different game.

Skerries are always a team to watch out for. They have been in the top 3/4 for the last few years. They are particularly strong at home

Is it true that Andy 'MAX' Macken is playing for Bray? They must be paying him.

They tend to fall down against the bigger teams though from what I hear

I play for skerries. We will be in the top 4. What do you mean they struggle against the top teams.

Yes Andy Macken is playing for Bray.

Top 2 in Div 2 will be hard to call this year.

Avoca
Bray
Clontarf
Skerries
Suttonians

All above are capable of winning that league this year. Each team capable of taking points off the other. Will be much more interesting than last year I think

What about Trinity. Has anyone played them yet I think they will be in the mix

Apologies- Meant to put Trinity on that list. They appear to be well organised this year under Ronan Pelow and have a number og good players. They could also potentially win the league so thats 6 teams competing for 2 places. Could be interesting

Personnaly i think the top will be Bray, Suttonian, Skerries, Clontarf, Avoca, I watched Skerries and Avoca game Avoca could not deal with Skerries attacking style, i think Suttonians are about to implode a lot of unhappiness in the camp and Mumir got his first sending off in his very first match back from suspension i think he could end up being a liability, Bray have 2 seasons in top flight and although they where hammered in a lot of games last year that still counts for something a serious problem seems to be the gap that teams like Weston, Naas, Navan have to make up after all look at goal difference of navan & naas last season this will ulyimatley bring the standard down in division 2 i think they should start promoting from division 3 next season.

Just watched the Trinity v Skerries game [4-7]. Great game with both teams matching the other in goals untill skerries pulled away at 4-4 to win 4-7. trinity had alot of possesion but could not break down the skerries midfield or defence. Skerries attacking play should of yielded more goals [they missed a flick] but the rest of the league should beware as they are a hard working team who are not shy in shooting.
