Men's Division One
Pembroke 1 (Alan Sothern) Three Rock Rovers 1 (Mitch Darling)
Honours even as normal time once again could not separate Leinster's top two from last year. Three Rock probably shaded posession but failed to create clear-cut chances while Pembroke will also hope to up the intensity when the IHL comes around.
Tim Hill hit the near post in the first half of an otherwise stale, midfield battle. Alan Sothern profited in the second from Michael Maguire's howler, latching on to a loose pass, rounding the last man and firing in from the right wing. Gordon Elliott then hit a post before a tidy short corner switch with seven minutes to go was knocked goalward by the younger Maguire and Darling tapped in slightly before it went over the line.
The game started with the rare sight of umpire Ciaran Bolger forced to don a Pembroke top, probably the one time in his career, as Pembroke's yellow and Three Rock's light blue clashed with the two different umpire's jersies to hand!
Corinthian 3 (Brian Doherty 3) YMCA 1 (Phil Powderly)
YM let a first half lead slip as Brian Doherty zipped in three stunning short corner strikes in the second half to give John McInroy his first win. Phil Powderly's improvised effort had the Y in front, on an eventful day for the player - he picked up a yellow in each half, two of four dished out on the day with Alan Blennerhassett also getting an enforced rest.
The second half was all Doherty's, though, who now looks to head the line of impressive corner strikers at the club.
Kilkenny 1 (Stephen Thompson) Fingal 3 (Adrian Sweeney, Mick McGuinness, Paddy Gahan)
Fingal joined Glenanne as the two teams left with a 100pc record with co-coach John McInerney pleased his side had "won twice without playing too well" and is now looking forward to bigger tests to come in the next few weeks.
Adrian Sweeney got the only goal of the first-half but Stephen Thompson levelled from a corner for the Cats to be well in the game. For the second week running, though, they conceded soon after, Mick McGuinness converting a corner. Fingal blew several other set-piece chances on the day but finally made the game safe when Andrew Shekleton's reverse cross was deflected in by Paddy Gahan.

It was Mitch Darling who got the Goal for Rovers.
Was at the Three Rock - Pembroke game, think Three Rock have a good bit to go before they will be ready for the EHL. They at times seemed uninspired on the pitch and while they looked sharp, they are no where near what pembroke looked this time last year. They need a leader on the pitch.
Well done Mitch.Great goal
I agree they arent at the same level that PW were last year but i think the bigger gap is seem between PW last year and PW this year, i know they're missing a few but it was a very uninspiring performance yesterday, TRR should have walked it.
was at CHC v Y match . Y will take points off teams this year with full squad. Walker made a number of stunning saves -- the 3 SC's were unstoppable
Was playin in CHC match, do not feel ym will take many points off higher teams as the only reason ym were not losing earlier on in the game was due to walker pulling off some excellent saves, and if they cant score goals, then all they can hope for are draws and its hard to keep clean sheets against the better teams... ps. brians flicks were amazing...
if Y concede 3 goals and need walker to make a number of stunning saves how is comprehendable that they will allegedly take points off teams??
i think when they are back to full strenght they will be dangerous. three rock lost 5 1 two cookstown
good win for chc, 3 goals second half.
TRR's got beat by Cookstown 6-2! Anyone know if TR had their best side down there..
yes it was a full squad.! played poorly
ah cmon the y were missing alot of players and chc had a full squad out! they were playing against a mixture of firsts and second players
were there any more pictures from the PW v TRR game?where can you find them?!
Mitch is a gun! Who cares about this time last year, it's now that counts. Who coaches P.ke if Ned takes the senior job(Pasmore will pick him anyway).Y.M and Corinths? ..who cares about the relegation batle
http://www.flickr.com/photos/23677853@N04/ - In the coming weeks, I'll endeavour to add all the pictures from the last year or so to this site.
Also, check out http://www.flickr.com/photos/picturesofsport/ for more hockey pictures
i would say mitch is more of a loose cannon than a gun,he needs to be careful that he doesnt let his head get too big and forget that hockey is a team game, some signs of both of these negatives creeping into his game already,no doubt a talent but i wonder is he being talked up to be more than he actually is?
very arragont statment about the chc vs ym game, does anyone else agree??
Its like the premiership usual 3 fighting it out, but its entertaining to see the relegation battle too, even if it is match 3 in the season. I cant see Y or Corith at the top ,so its a fair enough comment.
The league will be similar to last year. UCD and Railway propping up the bottom. Kilkenny, YMCA, Corinthians mid-table. Glens, Town and Fingal fighting for 3rd/4th spot. PW and TRR top two.
Although, TRR and PW don't seem as strong as they did this time last year. That combined with 14 game rule for internationals should make it a bit more interesting at the top.

Cookstown 6 - 2 Three Rock. Cookstown were missing three first team regulars yesterday, notably ivan steen, thomas hutchinson and mark crooks, two of which started the game against annadale on saturday. too much cant be read into this result however as three rock missed some good chances, and also played the match 30 minutes after a too hour drive.
could bolger have got a smaller jacket!!
Well judging from the initials it's Stuart Loughrey's
Whats Loughreys?
Whoever made that last rant about mitch being talked up or getting big headed obviously doesnt know him! Hes One of Irelands first choice forwards at the moment, so if one of Irelands best players is being "talked up", then id love to hear that idiots opinion on the rest of the hockey players in Ireland!!
DR
leave Bolger alone he is one of the Best Umpires in the country (if not the Best) - always on the button .
Definitely agree with that last comment, he is a class umpire. Think his playing experience really stands to him.
hello bloggers...thanks for the praise..and yes it wasnt my mother or my wife r kids talking...its also good to see some positive comments regarding umpiring..i would also agree playing helps a lot to understand what players are trying to do..its not 4 everyone wasnt sure how it would work for me,but when players are putting in so much,to get to the top ,and i have spent many a bitter cold night in glenanne park training to get to the top of my playing time ..the least they should get is someone umpiring who as in playing now wants to be the best in umpirng...looking forward to the ihl..see ye there..BOLGER
if thats the case then dan clarke should be the best umpire in the world
Well as someone who knows K Bolger fairly well - i can say that the Response from "BOLGER" aint from K Bolger! as far as i know kb doesnt know one end of a computer to another !
But i will say that he is a fairly decent umpire -
JK
HAhahah.....
Very good one!!
