Ireland to host Champion's Challenge II

The FIH has awarded the first ever Men’s Champions Challenge II 2009/2010 to Dublin. The tournament will take place in Belfield from 5-11 July 2009. Japan, Malaysia, France, Russia, Poland, Austria and Chile coming to town. This will rove a big boon for the IHA, not only of home advantage but saving the huge costs of travelling to the alternate destination, Chile.

The Irish women, however, will have to travel to Kazan in Russia for their version of the event which runs from June 21-27, 2009.

The FIH also announced the venues for the World Cup qualifiers yesterday with men's tournaments allocated to New Zealand, Lille and potentially Malaysia subject to receiving bid details. Those tournaments will fall toward the end of October and into November.

For the women, two venues have been announced for the WCQ's to take place in early 2010 - Santiago, Chile and Seville, Spain. The third competition will be announced at a later date.

The Indoor World Cup 2011 Men and Women is allocated to Poznan, Poland from 8-13 February 2011.

Hopefully we should be able to beat Japan and France as these two seem to be always blocking us from the big competitions! Japan are a long way from home but France will be very tough. Should be great hockey tho.
