Jacqui Potter Cup: Hermes 1 Old Alex 0

Hermes 1 (Nikki Evans) Old Alex 0
Hermes advanced to the last eight of the Jacqui Potter Cup with a close-run win over an improving Alex side. Nikki Evans (pictured, marked by Ann-Marie Cullen) got the only goal of the game in the 22nd minute, finishing off at the second attempt after Jenny Burke's brilliant run down the right wing.

Anna O'Flanagan had a goal chalked off two minutes later after an umpire's consult as the ball deflected off an Alex stick and then into the body of Evans on its way into the net. Hermes enjoyed more of the possession -winning the corner count 4-3, too - but Alex probably had the best of the second half chances as Aoife Budd's reverse cross rolled agonisingly out of reach of Lucy Cotter's stick on the back post.

The midfield battle proved an intriguing one, too, as Linda Caulfield and new arrival Lesle-Ann George locked horns - the pair know each other reasonably well having faced off in the Setanta Trophy in 2007. George showed some neat touches and one real moment of class though struggled slightly with flu on the night.
