Men's Division One: Monkstown 5 UCD 1

Monkstown 5 (Gareth Watkins 5) UCD 1 (Ben Grogan)

The Town move into third place, albeit with a game extra played, as they pulled away in the closing final 15 minutes against UCD as Gareth Watkins became the first player this season to hit five in one game.

His first pair came before half-time, both from corners, before Ben Grogan's drag-flick fortuitously made it 2-1 in the second half. Watkins, though, responded soon after and added another two, one from a corner as the game neared its conclusion.

I put one together the other day for men's and women's. Will see what I can organise in the next couple of days.

Some interesting reading for all the stattos. Blakeney and Sothern have scored the same amount in all competitions with 14 but all bar one of Sothern's are in the league while the Three Rock man's are spread over EHL, IHL, Neville, Mills and league. Loads more, um, fascinating insights to follow!

How about a discipline table?Showing the teams totals of green, yellow & red cards. That would be interesting. Keep up the good work Stephen.

There is a very worrying trend for UCD lately. Playing good hockey and competeing well for 50-55 minutes and then folding in the last quarter. With such a young squad it cant be lack of fitness and must indicate a lack of desire.

This site is one of the best things to happen Leinster hockey since the invention of the round ball!!

The Leinster Branch has spent thousands on very poor websites in the past which in my opinion didn't enhance the sport what so ever, I think that it is very much in the interests of the hockey playing public to maintain and expand this site.

I do not know if Stephen currently recieves any financial help from the branch towards the running of this site, but if not i think it is high time that we, the members of the Leinster Branch put pressure on the people that make these decisions to help stephen out!

Or another idea could be for individual clubs who find this site useful to make donations towards the running of the site!
