Ireland got off to a difficult start in their three match series, trailing 4-0 to Great Britain at half-time at UCD last night.
GB enjoyed the lion's share of territory and went ahead after 12 minutes when Sarah Thomas opened their account. Ireland won their only penalty corner in the first half after 25 minutes through Jenny McDonough but a slow push out made it easy for GB to block. Kate Walsh doubled the lead soon after before Alex Danson scored twice in jig-time through two excellent deflections just before the break.
Ireland started the second half stronger, winning four corners, but could not find the finishing touch. The British extended the lead to five in the 50th minute when Lucilla Wright fired home a reverse stick shot.
Commenting after the game Coach Muller too was obviously disappointed: "We let ourselves down tonight, we are capable of playing so much better and competing so much better than that. We weren't in the game and it is disappointing as it is a bit of a set back from where we have come.
"Luckily though we have two more games this weekend in which we can improve. We will take both technical and tactical lessons from tonight’s game and regroup before the next match."
