Pegasus retained the ESB Irish Senior Cup as they won out in the all Ulster final, beating Ballymoney 2-1.
Both sides had their chances in the opening moments but it was Pegasus who were first to convert in the 10th minute when an excellent side step from Speers found Claire McMahon in the circle. Her splendid strike gave Pegasus the early advantage.
Despite winning six penalty corners, the Ballymoney defense, marshaled by Ireland's Bridget McKeever held strong and the first half closed out one nil to the reigning champions Pegasus.
The second half saw some great goal mouth action as both sides created chances in the circle in this fast paced match. Ballymoney found their equaliser in the 41st minute when Ballymoney won their first and only corner of the match. It was perfectly executed, finding Nikki McCaughern to draw level.
The draw was short-lived and Pegasus responded two minutes later when McMahon found herself one-on-one with the keeper. She rounded her, finishing into the roof of the net.
Ballymoney were given a golden opportunity to get back on terms soon after, earning a penalty stroke. But the experienced Lynsey McVicker uncharacteristically put high and wide.
Ballymoney continued to pile on the pressure for the closing moments of the match but cold not wrest the title from Pegasus.
