Happy New Year!

As 2008 comes to a close, I'd like to wish everyone best wishes for the New Year. Personally, the year gone by was an incredible year for The Hook. Readership numbers have gone through the roof in recent months and the number of comments ballooning.

The interest in The Hook and Southern Fried show that there is a huge public interest in the game and is worthy of more coverage.

The site, though, could not exist without the support from a huge number of people with a large network of volunteers contributing information. Such efforts are necessary to make our sport thrive across the board and keep the interest going and are much appreciated.

As such, please keep contributing your ideas, photos, stories, videos and queries to stevie_findlats@yahoo.com and I'll try and deal with as many as time allows.

Best wishes for 2009,

Stephen

Hockey needed something like this, theres alot of talk around the clubs about the site - especially the blogs! all the best for 09, with the increase in hits hopefully you pick up a big sponsor and can go pro! Keep up the good work, its hugely appreciated at all levels.

leinster u21 coach this yr is victor shaw

Victor Shaw would be a great coach I think!! Played a lot of underage interpros but won my only one under him. More Irish coaches in there the better.

Victor Shaw is the Girls Under 21 coach

is it true Monkstown 2nd beat Clontarf 1st 4-2 in a friendly? Were Clontarf missing players? I've seen Monkstown play this year and didn't think they were great.

Anonymous said...

yes its is true, and Monkstown were 4 nil up until 5 mins to go. Not sure if Clontarf were missing any players but Monkstown were missing a couple. So the town have now beaten Bray twice this season and clontarf what does that tell you? Div 3 is better that Div 2.

Yawn Yawn. And clontarf have beaten division one opposition in competitive matches twice this season. Maybe (and I could be mistaken here!!!).....div 3 is better than div 1. Makes perfect sense really..................

By the way I am not a Clontarf player

what do people think of a hook player/GK of the month award???leinster branch used to do it years ago and stopped it....think it might be a good idea with stevo calling the award from the reports he gets.....leave it to you to discuss!!!

Anonymous said...

sounds like a good idea.

ive seen and experienced player of the month/year in other countries.
each umpire gives a 1,2,3 rating system based on what they think at the end of each game.
whoever has most points wins, simple!
Results could be emailed to steve if it were to be used through this site?

it would be very hard to judge a player of the month, as nobody can watch everybody play their all matches and nothing is televised...it would more than likely just end up going to the top scorer of the month.

I remmeber when it was done the last time, coaches were asked to pick a player from the opposing squad from each game.

The most votes won. As a previous commenter has mentioned, it normally went to the top scorer of the month. Peter Blakeney picked up a number of the awards in the season he netted 35 league goals. I think that was the last time it was in place.
