Peard Cup final: Harlequins 1 Bandon 0

Cork Harlequins kept the Peard Cup within the confines of the Quins/C of I axis for a 25th year thanks to a 68th minute strike from Dan Hobbs to seal the tie at Farmer's Cross.

Bandon went into the tie slightly understrength and given little hope of glory but, thanks to incredible defensive work from Nigel Martin and fine goalkeeping from Ian Hosford, managed to stay with Quins and eking out a couple of half-chances that might have swung it their way.

Harlequins did enjoy huge tracts of possession, as evidenced by their 13 penalty corners, but could not get their routines in gear. John Hobbs did hit the post from one but for the most part the flying Ali Smith was able to close down the corners quickly.

In the 20th minute, Ali Smith and Darren Sweetnam combined well, creating a decent opening for David Smith but Chris Daunt saved well while eight minutes from time Sweetnam robbed Jason Black to play in Ali Smith but Rob Hobbs did enough to spoil the chance.

That proved pivotal as the youngest of the four Hobbs' brothers, Dan, was sprung from the bench - he was suffering with injury during the week - to fire in a low drag-flick and prevent the title going into the hands of an outsider for the first time since Belvedere in 1985.

Bad times for Quins.Things can only get worse!!!

I think that is very harsh.
Bandon learnt from the defeat against C of I and played with a lot of skill and determination. Credit must go to Ger Burns and the players.

what do these anonymous' even know about quins..

are these the very same people that forecast mid-table mediocrity for the glens last season??

people need to broaden their horizons i think.
quins are a quality side that took c of i comprehensively and deserved something out of their ihl game with pembroke.
in the end they got a bonus point.

so they won a cup and people are writing them off.
yes that makes sense...

yes I agree when quins lose their stars eg lombards, blacks where are their upcoming players

I was one of the people who posted and i congratulated Bandon on making it very difficult for them.
That was not knocking Quins, as i think they are a fine team.

when they lose the lombards and black's it will be a few seasons from now.
they also have an international player in sean nicholson who is a stylish defender/midfielder that will help bring on some of their young players.
it is like asking what c of i will do without jermyn and hobbs but the bigger picture is that clubs are more than their respective international players and that clubs are actually reliant on the cornerstones of the club - the guys that are always at training perhaps mere fringe players but that make the difference with endeavour.
thus it is my belief that quins are far from doomed.
i seriously cannot understand that things can only get worse.
whats so bad about winning??

quins won t even come close to winning this year don t mind the peard cup now I mean like an ihl or isc or munster league

It is a very dangerous thing to make unsupported statements. Harlequins will do as well as can be expected. It is very difficult for a team to lift itself for IHL and ISC due to the nature of their home league. C of I are in the same boat and remember they lost the last IHL match and lost to Harlequins in their last meeting. Instead of knocking the two teams should Munster supporters not be supporting them both

why would ci support quins its like saying would liverpool support man united

I support any team from Munster no matter which club or competition they are in. The only time i do not is when C of I are playing them.
When C of I won the ISC in 1999, Quins supporters congratulated the team and i know when Quins won the All Ireland crown congratulations went the other way.
